Purell Instant Hand Sanitizer PURELL® Brand Instant Hand Sanitizer was developed by GOJO in the 1980s for use by healthcare and foodservice workers to kill germs on hands without soap, water or towels.
PURELL is now used worldwide by police, public safety personal in hospitals, nursing homes, child care centers and fast food restaurant chains to supplement routine handwashing and to kill germs that may cause disease.
In the early 1990s, OSHA (U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration) issued regulations requiring employers to provide a hand sanitizer or other antiseptic cleanser to employees exposed to bloodborne pathogens or other potentially infectious body fluids when access to soap and water is not immediately feasible. As a result, PURELL found its way into thousands of emergency vehicles, police cars, home health agencies' supplies and first aid kits.
