The Magpul™ Ranger Plate is a new addition to the MagPul line. An evolution of the original magazine tab, it is a replacement floorplate with an integral soft thermoplastic loop. It includes a separate internal lock follower to prevent the plate from sliding off, but still allows easy disassembly and cleaning with the push of a button. The grasping loop is contoured to allow several different gripping options during high stress, tactical magazine changes. It also buffers magazines when dropped, and is available in tactical black or low-profile camouflage colors.
The greatest benefit of the Ranger Plates is their low profile. Adding no bulk to the outside dimensions of the magazine body, the Ranger Plates will fit in some magazine carriers that are too snug for standard MagPuls. They also add less height, allowing them to fit pouches whose flaps were too short to close with standard MagPuls. They are arguably a better choice for protective details where concealment of rifle magazines may be an issue.
